If your house’s kitchen is lightly colored and in need of a modern twist, consider caledonia style granite for your next remodel. Caledonia is one of the most popular granite colors with a wide range of uses. This grey graphite patterned granite pairs great with white cabinets and dark wood floors, and looks incredibly natural in any modern contemporary style house. Caledonia granite has a way of subtly accenting white cabinets and will look even more stunning against a stainless steel sink.

Caledonia granite is a common granite which will cost buyers anywhere from $40 to $50 per square foot, a relatively affordable choice for many looking to transform their kitchen. If your kitchen cabinetry and appliances are on the lighter side of the color spectrum, consider choosing caledonia to offset the brightness that comes from white cupboards, ovens, and microwaves. You will be happy with your choice, as your new caledonia granite countertops will continue to shine for years to come.

Bianco Antico

This relatively affordable granite is named appropriately, as it is only found in Brazil. Similarly to caledonia granite, bianco antico is a grey hued granite with speckled features that have the potential to elevate any kitchen. While viewing the granite closer, however, you will begin to notice the unique bronze colored mineral deposits that are scattered throughout the stone. What makes bianco antico granite unique is its versatility in accommodating both darker and lighter colored kitchens alike. While this color of granite adds a touch of class to dark colored kitchens, it is also capable of transforming lighter colored kitchens into a lavish and elegant dining space.

Since bianco antico is a mid-range granite, many buyers will end up paying $60 to $70 per square foot, depending on the thickness of your granite countertop. This style of granite is a great choice for homeowners wishing to add a touch of brightness to their kitchen, while also offering dark colored accents, thanks to its unique mineral deposits.

Steel Grey

An exceptional color choice for light kitchens, Steel Grey granite offers various shades of grey, with lighter grey colors speckled throughout the stone. With a uniformly polished look, steel grey granite can be used for turning a traditional kitchen into a sleek, modern-looking work of art. Since it possesses a uniform pattern, many steel grey granite slabs have very little variation, meaning that your new countertops will look clean and concise throughout. For those looking for a granite countertop with varied character, steel grey granite may not be the best choice for you.

Quarried in India, you can find steel grey granite slabs for around $40 per square foot, and will love how well its low-profile color will complement your kitchen. While this granite may look incredibly nice when used in a lighter colored kitchen, it might not work as well in kitchens that have traditional wood-colored cabinetry. For this reason, we suggest looking online to see how others have remodeled their kitchen by using steel grey granite.

Black Pearl

When viewed from afar, black pearl granite has a jet black appearance that looks clean and professional. However, after approaching a black pearl countertop, you may start to take notice of its intricate detail and numerous colors it possesses. Black pearl granite is speckled with dashes of brown, gold, silver, green, gold, and grey, and makes a bold statement when placed in a kitchen with white cabinetry. Originating in India, black pearl granite is available in multiple finishes, making it a versatile granite with many different uses. Not only can you use black pearl granite for chic looking countertops, you can also utilize it for backsplashes, flooring, and much more.

This unique granite is covered in mineral deposits, which will easily catch the eye of friends and family who take notice of its minute differentiations. Depending on the thickness of the granite you require, black pearl granite can range anywhere from $40 to $50 per square foot, making this mid-range granite an excellent choice for those looking to make their kitchen shine.

Giallo Ornamental

For those looking for an affordable granite that still offers classy characteristics, consider looking into giallo ornamental granite. This unique granite from Brazil offers homeowners creamy and rich undertones with speckled brown minerals. When seen from afar, giallo ornamental appears to be very uniform, taking a closer look however, will reveal beautiful mottling with a substantial amount of color variation. Since giallo ornamental granite is lighter in color, it will effectively hide smudges, fingerprints, and stains much better than a darker colored granite would.

Giallo ornamental granite is very affordable, ranging from $30 to $40 per square foot, making it an excellent choice for homeowners on a budget who would still like to change the look and feel of their kitchen. If you are looking for an affordable granite that still possesses all the elegant characteristics of more expensive granite, giallo ornamental is an exceptional granite which will be sure to please you.

Choosing the Perfect Granite Countertop Color for Your Kitchen

Choosing the Perfect Granite Countertop Color for Your Kitchen 2

If you’ve recently considered remodeling your kitchen, you’ve probably thought about adding a touch of elegance with the use of granite. When used correctly, granite countertops can serve as a kitchen’s centerpiece and can tastefully unify both your cabinets and flooring. Finding a style and color of granite that suits your kitchen’s needs can be difficult, which is why Royal Granite has listed a few simple tips and tricks so that you can easily find a style of granite to complement your kitchen.

Below, we’ll discuss how lighting can affect the mood of a room, and why you should consider your kitchen’s lighting before deciding on a color of granite. We’ll also talk about the free services granite companies often provide to make your purchasing decision informed and easy.

Consider Your Kitchen’s Lighting

When choosing the right color and style of granite for your kitchen countertops, it is important that you first take your kitchen’s natural light into account. While a darker colored granite may be aesthetically pleasing in a kitchen with plenty of natural light, it might not look best in a kitchen that lacks an abundance of natural light. Alternatively, while lighter colored granite countertops will look stunning if your kitchen doesn’t receive a lot of natural light, they may look too bright in a well-lit kitchen. For this reason, we recommend visualizing how your remodeled countertops would look in natural daylight so that you may find the perfect color to give your kitchen a unified look and feel. Natural lighting is easy to overlook when choosing the perfect granite for your new kitchen; however, you’ll be far more pleased with your results when taking your kitchen’s lighting into consideration before purchasing your kitchen’s granite.

Matching Granite to Cabinetry and Flooring

After you’ve determined how much natural light your kitchen receives throughout the day, you should start matching countertop styles and colors with your kitchen’s cabinetry and flooring. It may be difficult to visualize how granite will look once installed in your kitchen, which is why we recommend bringing one of your kitchen’s cabinet doors with you while shopping for the perfect color. If you still can’t decide on a color or style that’s right for your kitchen, ask your granite provider if they can give you granite samples to take home so that you can more accurately gauge how various styles will look in your kitchen. This will allow you to easily rule out colors you were initially considering, and find a style that blends seamlessly with the current look of your kitchen.

How to Keep the Clutter Off of Your New Kitchen Countertops

How to Keep the Clutter Off of Your New Kitchen Countertops 3

Once you’ve had your new kitchen countertops put in by our Georgia team, you’ll be eager to show them off. If you are like most households, though, your kitchen counters are one of the most highly utilized surfaces of your home. They are a place to drop the mail, make a cup of coffee, prepare an evening meal, and store all those kitchen gadgets that you don’t know where else to stash. All that clutter can really take away from the beauty of your countertops, but Royal Granite Countertops can help! We have some helpful suggestions so you can cut the clutter and show off all that gorgeous granite.

Cut the Clutter of Your Kitchen Countertops!

Utilize the space under your cabinets.

There is a lot of space you aren’t using right there under your wall cabinets. Put it to work! By hanging cup books or even baskets underneath your wall cabinets, you can get items off of the countertop and safely stored away. Try it for your coffee mugs, spices, and even cooking utensils. All that stuff you leave out for easy access (or because there is nowhere else for it to go) can be tidied away into baskets and other storage under your cabinets.

Do some rearranging in your cupboards.

Are you really utilizing all of the space inside of your cupboards and cabinets? Most people aren’t. Be creative and look for ways to use the space more efficiently. Instead of using an entire shelf for short jars of spices, add another shelf and double your storage capacity. Or, instead of storing your plates flat and missing out on the vertical storage space, get a plate rack that sits inside the cabinet and set the plates upright. There are a number of inexpensive products on the market that can help you create better storage solutions.

Go high.

Make sure you are using all of the space available in your kitchen, including above your cabinets. If you are lucky enough to have storage space above your cupboards, put it to work. Store anything that you don’t use on a regular basis (mixers, holiday items, special bottles of alcohol) on these upper shelves. You can keep that space looking tidy by using baskets to store the items or even hanging a curtain there.

Make a drop-off station.

Paperwork is one something all homeowners have to battle in their kitchen. School work, paperwork, and mail all seem to accumulate on the countertops. Keep the paper to a minimum by setting up a drop-off station. This is a place for each family member to unload their items at the end of the day and keep them off of the counters. Make sure there is a place for mail, keys, and other assorted items like lunch sacks and jackets.

Be ruthless.

It’s probably more convenient to have a lot of these items out on your counter, so it’s up to you whether or not the tidiness is worth it. For most homeowners, the answer is an enthusiastic yes! They love having clutter-free kitchen countertops that they are proud to show off to friends and family. In order to achieve this, though, you have to be ruthless! Once you’ve set up a system, enforce it with both yourself and your housemates. Pretty soon, cleaning off the clutter will be second nature to everyone!

More Dos and Don’ts of Caring for Your Granite Countertops

More Dos and Don’ts of Caring for Your Granite Countertops 5

When you invest in granite countertops, you want to do everything in your power to keep them looking great for years and years to come. However, when it comes to your kitchen countertops, they can take a real beating if you don’t properly care for them. Fortunately, taking care of your granite kitchen countertops is simple once you know what you are doing. In our previous blog, we started going over dos and don’ts of caring for your granite countertops. In this blog, we will continue the list to ensure that you know everything about granite countertop care.

DO: Use coasters under beverages.

While you may be able to put cans, glasses, and bottles directly on your granite without causing damage, why risk it? Coasters prevent you from leaving marks on your granite countertops, and also provide your beverage with traction to prevent spills. While coasters are an absolute requirement for marble countertops and less so with granite, give yourself added peace of mind and your countertops added protection by using coasters.

More Dos and Don’ts of Caring for Your Granite Countertops 6DON’T: Sit or stand on your countertops.

Unlike laminate countertops, your granite kitchen countertops are very hard and not flexible. This means that if you put too much weight on any one spot of your countertop, it could result in a crack. Avoid causing damage to your countertops by not standing or sitting on them, and making sure that no one else does.

Do: Use a soft cloth or sponge for clean up.

When you have a spill on your kitchen countertop, it is best to use a special granite cleaner. However, if you don’t have a time, a soft cloth or sponge soaked in hot water is sufficient to clean your countertops. However, avoid using dish soap on your countertops. While dish soap won’t technically cause damage to granite, soap build up over time will cause your countertops to dull. Avoid this by using a soft cloth or sponge with water without soap to clean up any basic spills or messes.

DON’T: Put hot pans or pots directly on your granite.

Technically speaking, it is possible to put a hot pan directly on your granite countertop without causing damage. Granite is an incredibly durable material, and in most cases, putting something hot on it isn’t going to cause damage; in very rare cases, it may experience “thermal shock” which will crack the stone. However, you must also consider the fact that any grit that comes between the pot and the countertop may cause scratching. While granite can take a beating, it is susceptible to smaller surface scratches in high-use areas, such as around the stove or sink. While this is rare, it is possible, so exercise extra caution and always use hot pads or trivets underneath hot pans or pots.

Prioritize Functionality

Before anything else, think about how you use your kitchen. When it comes to kitchen design, less is more. You want your layout to promote efficiency because when you are cooking, you aren’t going to want to carry a hot pan an unnecessary 10 feet. Just because you have the space to place the kitchen island farther from the countertop doesn’t mean you should. This will only serve to make cooking and cleaning more of a pain for you. Of course, you want your kitchen to have enough space for people to gather, but you should also consider practicality. A popular rule in kitchen design is the “working triangle.” This means that the lines between the fridge, sink, and stovetop should form an equilateral triangle. These are the three points in the kitchen that you will visit the most often while making a meal.

3 Kitchen Remodeling Tips 8

Light It Up

One of the most important aspects to consider when remodeling your kitchen is the lighting. In the kitchen, you need it to bright enough that you can cook, but you also don’t want it to be so bright that it feels like you are in a doctor’s office. You can create a bright light that is still beautiful by installing surface-mounted fixtures on the ceiling in a grid. Additionally, you can add to the decoration of your kitchen by installing hanging lights over your kitchen island. Finally, don’t forget about the fact that your cabinets will likely block some of the light in your kitchen. Therefore, you should also install lights underneath the cabinets.

Consider Your Cabinets

Your cabinets are not only essential for storage, they are a simple way to add personality and style to your home. Therefore, they should make your cooking more efficient while still being beautiful. Some people will forgo cabinet doors entirely to show off their lovely collection of dishes, which also makes it easier to grab dishes and go. If you prefer to have cabinets, there is a wide selection of colors and styles from which you can choose; just don’t forget to match them with your kitchen countertops! Regardless of whether you go with cabinet doors or not, just make sure your cabinets can accommodate all of your dishes. Don’t forget a couple of drawers in your lower cabinet space for large pots and pans for greatest ease of access!
